Product Description

Ancient Egypt, New Kingdom c. 1550 - 1070 BCE. An incredibly rare New Kingdom terracotta jar. A handmade rounded vessel with short, constricted neck and flared, pinched rim. The body is decorated with two registers of two wave-like incised designs, and the original archaeological excavation tag is faintly visible in black ink just beneath the neck on one side. The outside still shows impressions from the hay it was laid in during the drying process over 3,000 years ago, and the pinched rim was created by the artisan’s fingers, and traces of that ancient artisan’s fingerprint lines are still visible.
