Product Description

Ancient Jewish "Menorah" oil lamp from the Holy Land, dating from the 4th–6th century C.E. The spout is decorated with a stylized menorah: six candles flanking central pole, the spout of the lamp acts as the 7th candle when lit! Because most Jewish families during this time could not afford an actual menorah in their home, these menorah oil lamps were the closest thing. L: 4" (10 cm). Spout charred from ancient use! Chips to the body and spout, otherwise intact! Very well-preserved with light earthen deposits. Reference: Cf. Bussiere & Rivel, La Collection Rivel. (2012), p. 274-5, no. 326 and Bailey BM III, pl. 60, Q2332 for parallels. Rare ancient Jewish relic! ex-Robert Deutsch; ex-Archaeological Center, Tel Aviv.
