Coptic Egypt. Roman period, c. 300 to 450 AD. A wonderful Coptic textile fragment depicting a pouncing lion. Comprised of tightly-woven cotton and linen fibers in hues of tan and brown. The central lion is within a rectangular border with leaf-shaped elements around.
